Things to keep in mind when planning the entertainment for your big event:

  • Pick a quality DJ!
The often repeated term "you get what you pay for" really DOES apply here. Can you find a DJ elsewhere for ultracheap? Sure.  Will they give you the best experience possible? Probably not.  Make sure you choose a DJ who has performed a wide variety of diverse events.  An experienced DJ will mix music well, and you will notice the difference (and so will your guests!).  Make sure the DJ is able to customize his sets so that the music reflects your taste and style. This takes a lot of practice...make sure the DJ isn't using your event to practice!!

A professional, courteous DJ will not arrive late or come unprepared for your event.  A DJ who owns the company he works for is invested in his client's satisfaction, and will do whatever it takes to keep your business!

Make sure you meet the actual DJ before you book!  Some entertainment companies will book your event, and you won't know who is performing until they show up.  Scary!!  Arrange a face-to-face meeting with your DJ no more than two weeks before the big day.  This will ensure that everything you discuss will be fresh in his mind.

  •  Get it all in writing!
Make sure you sign a contract to eliminate any miscommunication regarding fees or expectations.  Write everything down when it comes to the time line of your event, and music selections.  If possible, start jotting down ideas and songs you hear that you know you want (or don't want!) in the months leading up to the event.  This is all good information for the DJ, and helps him understand the "feel" you're going for.  If he's not concerned about the "feel" you're going for, you better not book him!

  • Relax and enjoy!!
With all the details you have to keep track of, it's easy to get overloaded and stressed.  Remember that planning your special event should be part of the fun!  Choosing an experienced, high quality DJ will help relieve some of the stress of event planning.  At the end of the day, you want your guests to have a great time...and with the right entertainment, they will!!
